We're so excited to finally share that wonderful SURPRISE we've had brewing! Over the last year, Ari and I worked with Ashley Nichols and her team to make an animated trailer for Tamberlane, and it debuted at yesterday's Hunicast!!!
JUST TO BE CLEAR, because I know everyone wants an animated show, there are no plans to do an animated Tamberlane show, movie, video, or anything else! This is JUST an animated trailer, made specifically to help advertise the comic and the kickstarter.
There's an insanely talented team behind this and we are OVER THE MOON with it. If you want to check out more of their work (and who wouldn't?) you can learn about their upcoming animated pilot, Far-Fetched, here, as well as check out some of their work on their YouTube channel.
About Far-Fetched: After accidentally releasing her own chaotic canine creature, named Kira, into the world, an overly-anxious girl named Rue is dragged into a rock band of late-2000's misfits called Sesamoid. Armed with their budding friendships & an ancient ice cream truck, the gang uncover much more than meets the eye about the town of Veilport & become tangled in a world where science is at odds with monsters & the supernatural.
If you've read Tamberlane and you notice a certain resemblance between purple dog-esque creatures named Kira... you're not mistaken! I highly recommend checking out Far-Fetched when you have the chance, and pledging to their Patreon to support its production!
The animation team is the other group of people involved in the final $120,000 stretch goal -- we want to give all the hard workers a nice bonus for everything they've done to get us here. We have 9 days to go - we can definitely get there if everyone shares the campaign around to their friends and family!! I can't tell you how incredibly helpful word-of-mouth is for campaigns like this. So if you're willing to take a little time to share this, especially with your experience with reading or finding the comic, we would be super-duper grateful!
Thanks a million -- and I hope you enjoyed the trailer!!
Hey hey all!! A couple of very exciting things to talk about today!!
First off, Fanbase Press interviewed Caytlin about Tamberlane, and it was a lovely time! Here's an excerpt from it:
At the surface, Tamberlane deals with the way that others’ opinions of you can shape your self-identity, as well as what it means to not fit in even when you’re accepted and loved. But looking a bit deeper, it also tackles the fact that bad people are not always evil, that deeds and intentions sometimes do not walk hand-in-hand. It’s about the status quo, when to maintain it and when to challenge it. It’s about the uphill battle to change something as entrenched as an ideal, a law, a standard. It’s about how to deal with hopelessness and personal unmooring in the face of enormous social and political upheaval.
Go check it out and give it a read!
Ari and I will be on the Hunicast today at 3pm PST! Come join us and Ashley Nichols (Farfetched, Lackadaisy pilot cleanup artist), Michael Kovach (voice of Rocky from Lackadaisy and more), Dave Capdevielle (Farfetched), Ed Bosco (voice of Serizawa from Mob Psycho 100), and Tracy Butler (creator of Lackadaisy)! It's sure to be chaotic. and tons of fun.
AND, that special surprise we mentioned obliquely throughout the Kickstarter? We're premiering it here!
Get HYPE!!!
We've added two new tiers to the Kickstarter: another 25 slots each of the signed/sketch Omnibus and the Omnibus merch bundle! If you wanted a specially hand-sketched and signed bookplate to go with your Arc 1 Omnibus, this is a special opportunity for ya. That said, these are WAVE 2 tiers. That means that we will complete all the sketches for the original tiers first and provide them to the fulfillment center before we move on to working on these ones. So expect your shipment to arrive a bit later.
There's only 25 slots for each though so be sure to grab one before they disappear!
If you've already pledged, to adjust your tier:
That's it for now -- have a good day y'all! We've only got 9 days left, let's make em count! :D
We are so excited -- not only did we hit 2/3 of the goal last night ($40k!!! Oh my gosh!!) but we also now have more backers than Chapter 3 did! INCREDIBLE!!!
First off, we had a great interview with Al Mega over on the Comic Crusaders podcast:
Secondly, the first round of page edits for Chapters 1-4 is complete as of this week! We're going to send them for feedback to our beta reader group and then do another round to tighten up everything even further!
Thirdly, in the first week or so of the campaign, it turns out we had forgotten to add the digital versions of the Chapter 4 and Omnibus to the add-ons store. This has been remedied! Whoops!! If you were wanting to get both, they are available as add-ons. If you've already pledged, to adjust your add-ons:
* click "Manage your pledge"
* click "Change your pledge"
* select the tier you want by clicking "Pledge $___"
* click "Add" for each add-on you want!
We have a couple more awesome events waiting in the wings which we'll announce when we're closer... but in the meantime, thank you guys SO MUCH for your enthusiasm and support!!! We're so very excited!!
If you're looking for more ways to help (you're so kind!), sharing this campaign with your friends and family is truly, truly helpful and is honestly where a large portion of a campaign's growth comes from. Don't underestimate the power of word of mouth!
I hope you guys are having a lovely weekend. <3
So, as I am an old lady, I go to bed early here on the West Coast, and therefore there's a possibility my headline will be proven wrong by midnight, given how this campaign has started. Which is to say, off like a ROCKET. You guys, the whole team has been screeching behind the scenes, and I cannot express how deeply thankful I am to ALL OF YOU!!
Some notes of interest:
Finally, we've had a few questions that I've put into the FAQ:
With Kickstarter's add-ons!
After you select your tier, you will be prompted to select add-ons to add to your pledge! Among these add-ons are the books on their own, and you can add whichever book you didn't pledge for (and other fun goodies)!
If you've already pledged, to adjust your add-ons:
If you don't see any physical add-ons, then the tier you picked lacks physical rewards and can not add physical add-ons.
Unfortunately, due to the costs of printing, as well as what constitutes a "chunk" of story in Tamberlane, we are moving to a per-arc hardcover instead of every 2 chapters. That 1&2 hardcover was meant to be a special treat for that Kickstarter. It's not ideal for those who backed that Kickstarter, we know! And I'm so sorry about that. But we're doing our best to make the Arc 1 hardcover totally worth the money. If you opt to not back this Kickstarter because of that, I totally understand!
As for what the Omnibus includes, there is quite a bit of behind-the-scenes bonus content in the 1&2 Hardcover that will not be carried over to the Omnibus, so that printing will have some content that is unique to it! The Omnibus will include all of Chapters 1-4, as well as some old bonus content combined with (mostly) new content, such as exclusive annotations, a couple of bonus stories, etc!
From here on out, as far as we are aware, we will be printing only softbounds of each chapter, and Omnibuses (Omnibi?) every 4 Chapters, most likely!
Absolutely! When the page edits are complete, we will be releasing them on the website for free, replacing the old pages.
Assuming the campaign is successful, yes! The amount of copies we can print in bulk will depend on the amount the campaign earns, but assuming it is successful we will be offering copies of the Arc 1 Omnibus and Book 4 (while supplies last) in the Tamberlane store. These will not be made available until Kickstarter supporters have received their copies!
When we were planning the Arc 1 Omnibus, we wanted to include something celebratory to reflect on the development of the story from Books 1 through 4, and while we could have simply included some behind the scenes sketches and maybe an essay or two, we thought that having a more in depth discussion between the co-authors would provide more insightful and rewarding commentary. The annotations are, as a result, a rather lengthy back and forth between the authors discussing the development, writing, and artwork in the comic, as well as providing some funny stories and tidbits about the edits and challenges we faced compiling this version of the story! Keep in mind that the annotations are exclusive to the Arc 1 Omnibus!
And that's all for tonight from me! We are truly blessed and grateful to have such passionate, excited readers and we are BRIMMING with disbelief and excitement!!
On Wednesday, April 26th, we're on a podcast interview with Comic Crusaders! We'll be on camera and everything. Come see us at 2pm PDT! We can't wait to be there!
And I think that's it for me tonight. I am buzzed on excitement and I'm pretty sure my nervous system is going to have WORDS with me tomorrow, but it's worth it!!
I just realized ... Ari and I started working on this Kickstarter in July of last year. Which means we've spent 9 months on it.
